What To Do With Your Wedding Dress – 3 Charities to Donate to in Portland

The big day is over and you had the time of your life, but now things are winding down. You have to tie up loose ends, send thank you notes, change your last name, etc.

But what are you going to do with your wedding dress? Most women just seal it in a bag, hang it in the closet, and think of it now and again when they reminisce about old times. That is all you can do though because of course you are never going to wear it again.

What if you actually put your dress to good use? How, you ask? Donate it to one of these amazing causes! We have highlighted three charities that would love to help a bride have as special a day as you did, while helping different people in need.

1. Brides Against Breast Cancer

Brides Against Breast Cancer, a national nonprofit, hosts their “Nationwide Tour of Gowns” to raise funds to provide free wellness and educational services for cancer patients, their families, and caregivers. These programs include support groups, children’s programs, exercise classes, and more. Brides Against Breast Cancer raises two million dollars every year so that no one with cancer has to face it alone.

They are hosting their Portland Show on August 17-18 where wedding dresses can be dropped off for donation. If you are passionate about the fight against breast cancer but can’t make it to the show, you can also send the dress to their headquarters. Another benefit? Your donation is tax deductible!

2. Brides for a Cause

Brides for a Cause collects and resells dresses on behalf of their partner Wish Upon A Wedding, a non profit organization dedicated to granting weddings and vow renewals for couples facing terminal illness and serious life-altering situations. Allowing couples to forget about hospital stays and focus on a day of love that everyone deserves is their mission.

Based in Portland, dresses being donated to Brides for a Cause can be dropped off or mailed. Bridal accessories such as veils, tiaras, and slips are also accepted so that any bride’s day can be complete. Your donations are tax deductible, too.

3. Adorned in Grace

Adorned in Grace works for the purpose of raising awareness and funds for the prevention of human trafficking and support for victims. All proceeds go to the fight against human trafficking thanks to donated retail space and donated time by their full volunteer staff. They were even featured on Channel 8 News recently about the great work they were doing - Click here to watch!

Donations of dresses and wedding accessories can be made at the Adorned in Grace shop in Portland or sent by mail. Don’t forget that donations are tax deductible!

Each of these charities helps promote a different but worthy cause that you can be proud of helping. We know that parting with such a big piece of your wedding is not easy, but the memories will always be there. A good solution is to hang one of your wedding pictures on the wall to see and remind you of the happiness it brought, instead of keeping your dress being cooped up in your closet doing no one any good. Wouldn’t you wish that same happiness for another woman, especially if it helped others in need at the same time? Try it and see how good you will feel!
