Located at the southern edge of Sellwood Park and overlooking the Willamette River, the historic chapel-museum was rescued from demolition in 1961.

Built in 1851, the chapel served the congregation of St. John’s Episcopal Church. The chapel-museum is now managed by the Sellwood Moreland Improvement League (S.M.I.L.E), in partnership with the City of Portland Parks Bureau. A National Historic Landmark, the chapel-museum has been historically restored. Two original pews remain in use. The 1889 stained glass window, recently restored, provides a beautiful interior photo backdrop for day or evening weddings. Air conditioning keeps the chapel-museum comfortable year-round.
