2014 Oregon Wedding Trends Forecast

At the beginning of every year, you will find wedding trends announced by several sources throughout the country.  And as you are probably well aware, those predictions vary from region to region.  Below is a list of hot things trending in Northwest weddings for 2014.  But keep in mind…. the biggest trend of all is to make your own trends – dare to be different and follow your heart!

Mid-century modern décor will make a big impact.  As the vintage trend subsides, look for the retro look of the 50s and 60s to make a showing in vases, furniture, pillows, floral, lighting and fashion.

Strong colors for the coming year include mint, peach, blush, soft white, gold and glitter.  Coming up close behind are hot tropicals and bold jewel tones.  Gray will continue to be a staple in both linens and bridal party fashion.

Big, bountiful bouquets!  You will see brides carrying true works of art down the aisle.  Look for large, lush, textural and loose bouquets.  Floral head pieces will also make an appearance – floral head wreaths, a large collection of flowers pinned to one side or small buds cascading down flowing locks.

Fun and unique signs splashed throughout the entire wedding celebration will continue in 2014, but chalkboards will fade out.  Instead, brides will display embellished mirrors, colored glass, metal and Lucite.

Look for lots of mixed elements and themes.  Don’t be surprised to see rustic wood tables topped with crystals and mirrors.  Or, tables draped with lush, formal linens and capped with casual floral, dinnerware and glassware.

Sequins and appliques and embroidery, oh my!  Linens are headed to a whole new level.  If your budget does not allow for the entire reception to be draped with these amazing specialty linens, splurge for a couple anchor pieces such as your head table, cake table, guest book table and seating card table.

Pay homage to parents, grandparents and special relatives – Consider using your grandmothers as flower girls, asking grandpa to greet guests as they arrive for the ceremony or having your special uncle offer a greeting/blessing before the meal.  It’s such a wonderful gesture, and they will surely feel honored to contribute to your wedding.  Don’t forget to mention this to your photographer and videographer so they can make sure and capture these special moments.

Video booths!  The voices and movement of your guests leaving special messages to you and dancing to your favorite songs will be treasured for a lifetime.

Charging stations are finally making their way to the NW!  With your guests snapping pictures and taking videos throughout the evening to keep your Twitter account hoppin’, it’s nice to offer an area where they can charge up if their smart phones start losing juice.  Offer chargers for various types of phones, and make it decorate by having the cords flowing out of a large floral arrangement or collection of decorative rocks.

Late night nosh – About an hour into dancing, surprise your guests with a late night snack!  Whether you plan to serve cookies and milk, ice cream sandwiches, decadent drinking chocolate or mini breakfast burritos, your guests will love the boost of energy to keep them dancing well into the night.  If a formal send-off in a getaway car is planned, just imagine the look on your guests’ faces if a fun food truck were to pull up as your car was pulling away!  Perhaps that hot pink Voodoo Doughnut truck?  Bacon maple bar, please!
