Guest Blog: How to Choose your Engagement Ring

HandfullofringsIt’s finally your turn. The day you have seemingly dreamed about forever finally arrived and you bask in your new found status of “fiancé.” Now we all know that the man is the main prize here, but given that you cannot be together all the time, it doesn’t hurt to take a little reminder of him with you everywhere you go in the shape of an engagement ring.

If you are like many women who have actually envisaged their perfect engagement ring or perhaps even seen it in a magazine and kept the photograph, then your task of selecting your ring amongst the thousands on offer may be easier. If you do not have any preconceived notions of what you want, then get ready to be spoilt for choice. However, either way, there are things that you must be aware of when it comes to choosing your engagement ring.

Here are some factors to keep in mind when selecting your engagement ring:

  • Go with your heart – just as you followed your heart when finding your life partner perhaps against the advice of friends or even family, select a ring that you love. You are going to be the woman wearing it every day for the rest of your life and you will have to live with your choice; so, by all means, seek the advice of friends and enjoy the “ring hunting” experience but select something that you love.
  • Money counts – it’s great that you are elated and on a perpetual high due to your imminent nuptials but that is no reason to go over-the-top financially when buying an engagement ring. It’s not worth ruining your future together by arguing over a ring as this is not what will make or break your happiness together. Be frank when talking about a budget and stick to it. There are beautiful rings available at virtually every price point.
  • Not all rings are for you – even the actual ring in the picture that you have been carrying around, when it comes to actually placing it on your finger, you may be disappointed. That is because not every shape of diamond or band design suits every shape of hand. There are designs and shapes of diamond to suit every shape of hand and every length of finger, you just to be objective and open-minded when it comes to choosing the right one for you.
  • Educate yourself – prior to entering a jewelry store, do your homework online. Educate yourself about diamonds, precious metals, and designs. It will save you time when you are shopping and also help give you a feel for the salesperson and how well they know their business. Never feel pressured to buy something as important as an engagement ring.
  • Honesty counts – even once you have done your homework, chances are that you will not know as much about diamonds and rings as the person with who you are dealing. That is why it is imperative that you only deal with reputable individuals who have been in the market for a substantial amount of time and offer security of purchase in the way of price, quality, and return guarantees. Much of this information is also available over the Internet.

Following these rules will get you the ring you want for the price you want in a happy and carefree manner.

I agree to almost every point. The main thing to notice about is that photographs do differ from the original product so should not be expecting the same image of it. Moreover, if you are buying the ring from a jewelry store, you must have a look at it in the normal day light once as dedicated lights on the ring may pose it to be totally different.
