Making Wedding Wishes Come True One Cupcake at a Time

July 27, 2010

Wish Upon A Wedding is a non-profit organization, launched in January 2010, which helps fulfill the  wishes of terminally ill patients on their very special day. This organization has been setting up multiple chapters around the United States, including Portland, and granting the wedding wishes of couples who are celebrating their love, spirit and courage through the difficult times they encounter.

Learn ways to help & participate by visiting the official Wish Upon A Wedding website, and visiting their Facebook & Twitter pages for more information. You can help by volunteering your time, helping a vendor before and/or during a wedding, donating miles, money, and services, enabling the individuals getting married to focus solely on themselves and not on the existing health issues.

Today, Cupcake Jones is donating 5% of their profits to Wish Upon A Wedding. You can help by visiting Cupcake Jones in the Pearl District and picking out your favorite treat! Choose from their daily specials of chocolate dipped strawberry cupcakes, banana split cupcakes or coconut lemon cupcakes. If the classics are what you prefer then go for the red velvet, the “Pearl”, or their devil’s food cake cupcake!

By visiting Cupcake Jones today, you won’t have to worry about the extra calories, instead you’ll feel good about helping make the wishes of so many come true! Donate today & help a great cause!

For any questions you may have, you can find the contact information on the “Contact” tab on Wish Upon A Wedding’s main site.

From Farm to Table

July 21, 2010

Chef Earl Hook of Meriwether’s Restaurant creates each dish to reflect a “farm to table” approach with a Pacific Northwest menu. Each dish includes fresh produce from their very own farm called Meriwether’s Skyline Farm.

About two and a half years ago, Meriwether’s took the initiative to create and operate their very own 5 acre vegetable farm located at the apex of Skyline Boulevard in Portland. The elimination of a middle man between the produce and the chef was of great importance to Meriwether’s. Not only would Meriwether’s know exactly where their produce was coming from, they would also be able to promote the strict organic qualities of their food to their diners.

Skyline Farms has completed 2 full harvests, providing the restaurant with over 8,000 pounds of produce. “What are they growing?” you may ask. Here is just a taste of the well over 40 varieties of produce they harvest:

Arugula, Kale, Breakfast Radish, Hakurei Turnip, Merlin Beets, Lettuce, Magda Squash, Green Garlic, Fennel, Carrots, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Strawberries, Snow Peas, etc.

Skyline Farm offers complimentary wine and cheese tours, introducing guests to the farm, its crops and mission. Enjoy wine and cheese tasting from local purveyors with friends in a picturesque rural setting just minutes from Portland.

The next tour will be Saturday July 24th at 12:00 p.m.
