Next month’s Association of Bridal Consultants(ABC) meeting, Tuesday, June 9th, 6-9pm, will be a themed Murder Mystery Night at Al Amir in downtown Portland and coordinated by Signature Weddings & Events.
“Who Killed The Wedding Planner” will be set in the 40′s, south side of Chicago and costumes are encouraged. Come up with your character’s name and reasons why you hated or loved the planner (real or imagined situations) and an alibi. Attendees will vote on who’s guilty, so come with your story and sense of humor!
If you are not an ABC member – include your telephone number, as well as your full name and business name.

Came across this from Modern Bride… “Punch is now making a splashy appearance at weddings. These posher, updated concoctions are inspired by reception colors or the season, made with fresh juices and high-end spirits (artisanal vodka and fancy rum) and presented in chic vessels (think of large clear glass jars) rather than standard punch bowls. And yet they’re still as festival as ever, ladled into each guest’s glass on the spot.”
Have a hand calligrapher or custom stationer create beautiful placards to describe each beverage, have your florist adorn the table with abudant flowers and your caterer provide funky, mis-matched glasses for a unique effect.

Barbara Pikus does really cool caricatures of brides, grooms – Well, really anybody on bisqueware pottery. You can decorate the plate as desired or could even add guest signatures before it is fired and glazed.
There is an example at Dipinto a Mano. Other great ideas she does are family caricatures – she just finished family caricature #3 for a bride and groom that she drew 3 years ago. She did #2 drawing when they had a baby. Now she’s drawing #3 with 3 year old and a 2nd baby plus dog. She says “they haven’t aged…they wanted the same faces as bride and groom drawing” – Cool Idea!

When dress shopping for your wedding gown – be sure to do your homework before visiting the salons. If you familiarize yourself with the designers and looks before shopping you will then understand the lines, and you will be able to narrow down that “perfect gown” much more easily.
Bring a friend or your mom with you (and a camera) to try them on and if you find THE dress – order it. No need looking elsewhere – if it is perfect, you can try on 50 more gowns and you will go right back to the “perfect gown”.
Dress shopping should be fun, so don’t cram it all in one weekend. Take your time – look at the pictures of you wearing the gowns, try on headpieces with it – make it an experience. This is a time you will remember for the rest of your life!

Dear friends & fans,
3 Leg Torso demonstrates the seemingly endless possibilities of its music over the next month — starting *tonight* in Portland. We’ve got film news (3LT’s music is going to Cannes!), concert news (including the world premiere of a new symphonic piece!), theater news and modern ballet news for you today!
The 2009 short film “Walter Ate a Peanut,” conceived and directed by Robin Willis—and with an original score by our own 3 Leg Torso—has been accepted into the Short Film Corner at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Additionally, the film is one of 10 finalists in two of the competitions within the festival: Amazon and The Film Board of Canada.
