The Northwest's most trusted name in wedding planning

Top 2013 Music Trends from John Ross Music

Each summer, my musicians and I have front row seats at dozens of weddings across the Pacific Northwest. We often perform the couple’s ceremony songs live at their weddings. We’ve seen a number of interesting trends this past year and have some fun predictions about popular songs for the coming wedding season.

2013 Trends

We noticed two major trends, one toward modern arrangements of traditional classical music (i.e. a fresh arrangement of Canon in D) and another toward “outside the box” songs from contemporary songwriters (i.e. walking down the aisle to “Marry Me” instead of the Bridal March).

 Hot Songs:

“Marry Me” by Train

“Ho Hey” by the Lumineers

“God Gave Me You” by Blake Shelton

“Better Together” by Jack Johnson.

2014 Predictions

We predict the trend toward contemporary songwriters will continue with more and more couples feeling the freedom to choose music they connect with even if the author or singer is less prominent. We also believe couples will increasingly choose more “classic” folk and rock music to bring a more nostalgic feel the their wedding.

 Songs to Watch:

“Count on Me” by Bruno Mars

“Everything’s Magic” by Angels and Airwaves

“The Luckiest” by Ben Folds

“God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys

“Stand By Me” by Ben E. King

“The Promise” by Tracy Chapman
